Sprite Jewelry EP rerelease
- 1 minSprite Jewelry EP
Cleaning up and backing up an old laptop I found some old music of mine, very much in a similar style to my recently released album.
I went ahead and made a separate release for it on bandcamp.
It was fun drawing the album art again in a PC98 style. I feel this types of graphics capture some of the minimalism of pixel art without being too reductive. Low resolution pixel art is honestly sort of ugly in my opinion, but it may be that I really don’t have nostalgia for the period of technology. Same for PC98 games, I didn’t play them growing up or anything, and as an adult I only played Policenauts. I got into this more originally just from drawing on a graphing calculator during math class. To me doodling is as much pushing a single pixel around as it is scribbling on paper.
Once again I’m pretty happy with how it came out although I am already recognizing some flaws in it lol. I’ve put a lot of time into figure drawing the past year and I’m glad that it is starting to show improvement. I am still learning a lot of anatomy and the principles of lighting though. With this piece it took a lot of iteration with my friend CTRL-Z and many duplications of layers. I have a lot of anxiety around art so every little step forward gives me lots of confidence.
I think next I will start to focus on drawing game assets for the games I’ve been working on. Some will need to be animated which will be a new challenge.
